yamaha dx7

The Yamaha DX7 was a commercially available synthesizer manufactured by the Japanese Yamaha Corporation from 1983 to 1989. It was the first successful digital synthesizer and is one of the bestselling synthesizers in history, selling over 200,000 units after only three years. Its preset sounds became staples of 1980s pop music and even today its influence can still be heard and felt. This video essay by Polyphonic takes a look at the machine that changed the way music was made forever.
